Nagle Begins Term as CAI President

1/1/2010  -  Alexandria, VA

P. Michael Nagle, a principal in the Maryland law firm of Nagle & Zaller, P.C., began his one-year term as the 37th president of Community Associations Institute (CAI) on January 1.

Elected by members of the 14-member CAI Board of Trustees, Nagle has served six years on the Board of Trustees, is charter member of CAI’s College of Community Association Lawyers and a past president of CAI’s Chesapeake chapter in Maryland. Nagle & Zaller represents community association clients in Maryland and the District of Columbia.

“Serving as president of CAI is an unqualified honor, but it’s also an opportunity to continue to build and strengthen CAI and the concept and reality of community association living,” said Nagle. “CAI is an indispensable organization—for management professionals, community leaders and association service providers across the country. I look forward to working with the board to bring even greater practical value to our almost 30,000 members in 2010 and beyond.”

A frequent speaker at national CAI conferences and chapter events—including Community Association Law Seminars in 1990, ’99, ’01 and ’06—Nagle was named the Chesapeake chapter’s Speaker of the Year in 1993 and Educator of the Year in 1999. He has also received Volunteer of the Year and Hall of Fame awards from CAI’s Washington Metropolitan chapter. Nagle is an author and coauthor of several CAI publications and numerous magazine articles, past chair of the CAI President's Club and has served on the organization’s Nominating Committee and Governance Task Force.

Long active in his community, Nagle is chair of the Howard Community College Educational Foundation, a member of the board of trustees for Centerstage in Baltimore and a member of the Howard County Tourism board. He served six years as a trustee of The Columbia Foundation and a member of its development committee. He is a past director of The Columbia Festival of the Arts, a former director of the Howard County Domestic Violence Center, past chair of The Columbia Association Sister Cities Advisory Committee and past two-term president of the Columbia Business Exchange.

Nagle obtained his Juris Doctor degree in 1979 from the University of Maryland School of Law, where he served as an editor of the Maryland Law Review. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science, magna cum laude, from Mount Saint Mary's College, where he was elected to the Monsignor Tierney Honor Society. He is admitted to practice law in Maryland, the District of Columbia and Georgia and is a member of the Bar of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Prior to entering private practice, Nagle served 10 years in U.S. Air Force Intelligence, earning two Air Force Commendation Medals and being designated Fifth Air Force Airman of the Year. He served three overseas tours, including two in Vietnam.

CAI is dedicated to helping homeowner and condominium associations meet the expectations of their residents. CAI members include community management professionals, volunteer homeowner leaders, and businesses and professionals who support associations.
