Residents of community associations around the country are demanding that municipalities provide trash collection, snow plowing and other services that traditional communities receive for free, according to an article in today's USA Today newspaper. The Community Associations Institute is spearheading efforts around the country to ensure that all homeowners receive equal basic services for their tax dollar.

"This is an issue of fundamental fairness under the law that has galvanized CAI's Legislative Action Committees and advocacy efforts across the country," said Rodney D. Clark, CAI's vice president of Government and Public Affairs. "Discrimination against certain types of housing counters the well-established doctrine of equal services for all taxpayers."

The Community Associations Institute is a nonprofit association created in 1973 to educate and represent the nation's 205,000 community associations—condominium associations, homeowner associations and cooperatives. CAI members include homeowners, associations and related professionals and service providers.
