Community Associations Institute Announces New Trustees and Officers for 2002

The Community Associations Institute (CAI) has announced four new members of the Board of Trustees, and five newly elected officers. Newly elected to the CAI Board of Trustees are John Poehlmann, Marc M. Poland, Beverly Scenna, and Linda Schiff. Newly elected officers include Mitchell H. Frumkin, J. David Ramsey, Paul D. Grucza, Howard A. Goldklang, and Marjorie J. Meyer.

 

New Trustees John Poehlmann, RS, is a reserve specialist who co-founded and serves as principal of Reserve Advisors, Inc., of Milwaukee, WI, and will serve as a member of CAI's Board of Trustees. Mr. Poehlmann is a founding and current member of the Reserve Networking Committee, current chair of the Associates Networking Committee, and sits on the CAI Illinois Chapter's Emerging Issues Task Force. He is editor of the informational videotape on Reserves that is distributed by CAI, and authored numerous articles for CAI publications and other outlets, including the Chicago Tribune.

Marc M. Poland is founder of Marc Poland & Associates, of La Jolla, CA, a company that works with boards and homeowner associations on reconstruction projects after construction defect litigation. He is also founder of the CID Registry of California™ and CID-DATA.COM.™ Mr. Poland, who will serve as a member of CAI's Board of Trustees, served as a member of CAI's San Diego Chapter board of directors for almost a decade, and has served on his own homeowners association board for more than a decade, with nine years as president.

Beverly Scenna is a homeowner in Palm Harbor, FL, and a member of the Suncoast Chapter of CAI. From 1997-1998, she served as a member of the board of directors of the Highland Lakes Homeowners Association, and served as secretary in 1998. Ms. Scenna will serve as a member of CAI's Board of Trustees.

Linda Schiff, CMCA, is a Senior Vice President of Barrington Bank & Trust, in Barrington, IL, and will serve as a new member of CAI's Board of Trustees. Ms. Schiff, a member of CAI for a decade, is the founding chair of CAI's Banking Networking Committee, a member of the Associates Networking Committee, and has extensive involvement in local CAI recruitment. Ms. Schiff has published several articles in a local publication, "Common Interest," and the CAI national magazine, "Common Ground™."

New Officers

Mitchell H. Frumkin, P.E., P.P., RS, is president of Kipcon Incorporated, a professional engineering consulting firm located in Highland Park, NJ, and will serve as Chair. Mr. Frumkin is a past president of the New Jersey Chapter of CAI, has served as a national Trustee since 1996 and is a past Chair of the CAI Research Foundation, as well as editor and contributing author of the nationally published book, "A Complete Guide to Reserve Funding and Reserve Investment Strategies." He is a licensed engineer with licenses in 22 states and speaks frequently at CAI conferences, both on a state and national level. Mr. Frumkin also publishes articles on a regular basis for numerous community association magazines and newspapers on a national level.

J. David Ramsey, Esq., an attorney with Hersh, Ramsey & Berman, of Morristown, NJ, will serve as Chair-elect. Mr. Ramsey, who served as Treasurer of CAI's Board of Trustees in 2001, heads the real estate section of his law firm, and has more than twenty years of experience in community association-related law. An active member of the New Jersey and American Bar Associations, Mr. Ramsey also serves on numerous committees related to community association and land development law. Mr. Ramsey has been a member of CAI's Board of Trustees since 1999, chair of CAI's Political Action Committee, and chair of CAI's Law Seminar Planning Committee.

Paul D. Grucza, CMCA, AMS, PCAM, is a manager with Consolidated Community Management, Inc., AAMC, of Tamarac, FL. Mr. Grucza will serve as Secretary. With more than two decades of experience in association management, Mr. Grucza currently manages his own association management firm, which represents 75 community associations in a three-county area. Mr. Grucza has been active in CAI since 1987, as vice president of the Western New York Chapter for a number of years, and more recently, through participation as a presenter and strategist in many CAI educational programs, including his receipt of the 1999-2000 "Educator of the Year" award.

Howard A. Goldklang, CPA, is president of Goldklang, Cavanaugh & Associates, P.C., CPAs, in Fairfax, VA, a company founded almost 30 years ago. He will be serving as Treasurer. In addition to his distinguished career in accounting, Mr. Goldklang, who has been an active member of the CAI Washington Metro Chapter for more than a decade, has been integrally involved in CAI's national activities. His various roles include serving as a member of a variety of task forces and committees, contributing to the writing of a variety of reports, including his authorship of "The Role of the Association Treasurer," acting as a reviewer for courses and publications, serving as a speaker at various CAI conferences, and winning the 1997-1998 CAI "Award of Excellence in Membership," among many other contributions.

Marjorie J. Meyer, CMCA, PCAM, is the founder of Prime Site, Inc., AAMC, a community association management company, in Houston, TX, and will serve as Vice Chair. With more than two decades of experience in property and community management, Ms. Meyer has served as speaker and leader at various national community association-related training programs. Ms. Meyer has served on the City of Houston's Neighborhood Planning and Protection Committee, and was a promoter and instructor for the Houston Proud organization. She has extensive experience researching and writing on the subject of community associations, is author of numerous articles and has contributed to several books and reports on the subject of community associations.

The Community Associations Institute is a nonprofit association created in 1973 to provide education and resources to America's 231,000 community associations – condominium associations, homeowner associations and cooperatives. CAI members include homeowners, associations and the professionals who provide products and services to them.
