Community Associations Institute's annual workshop for managers of large-scale communities, beginning September 22 at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA, features professional education, site tours, networking, golf, historical attractions and more.
The workshop is being hosted by Canyon Lake Property Owners Association, a 4,800-home community built around a 383-acre lake with almost 15 miles of shoreline.
The event includes a tour of the Canyon Lake property, a gated community of 11,000 residents that features an 18-hole golf course, equestrian center, state-of-the-art swimming facility, 7.5-acre campground, and a lake-front lodge with a restaurant, meeting rooms and a performance stage.
Educational sessions will address establishing asset management systems, taking advantage of career advancement opportunities, enforcing amended CC&Rs, and using technology and an intranet to facilitate communication.
The opening speaker is George Campbell, also known as comedian Joe Malarkey, a man often described as very excited about some extremely bad ideas.
"Managing a large-scale community is a unique and demanding challenge, one that requires specialized knowledge and skills," says Dawn Bauman, staff liaison to CAI's Large-Scale Managers Committee. "This workshop is historically successful because it targets the specific needs and interests of large-scale community managers. Beyond the education and picturesque location, this is the best opportunity to spend time with those who face the same challenges and share similar experiences."
CAI's Large-Scale Managers Committee addresses the educational needs and resources that professionals require to manage large-scale community associations.

The workshop has been approved for the 15-point continuing education requirements for the Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM) certification and the education credit toward the following designation requirements: Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA), Association Management Specialist (AMS) and Large-Scale Manager (LSM).
