Aug. 10,
2020 – Falls Church, VA – Community Associations Institute (CAI), the leading authority in
community association education, governance, and management, is proud to
announce it has awarded the 10,000th Association Management Specialist
(AMS) designation to
Amy Nonaka, CMCA, AMS,
of Action Property Management in San Diego.
The AMS
designation is a highly regarded credential earned by community association
managers to demonstrate a greater level of commitment, knowledge, and expertise
in their profession—working to support the millions of residents living in
condominium communities, homeowners associations, and housing cooperatives worldwide.
“I am
honored to be a part of the huge milestone as CAI's 10,000th designee of the
AMS. It is important to continue my professional growth through educational
courses with nationally accredited organizations, such as CAI, to provide the
best service and recommendations to my clients. I look forward to
pursuing a PCAM designation next,” says Nonaka.
According to CAI, a community association manager provides professional
guidance and assistance to a community association’s board of directors using
their financial, administrative, and facilities management experience. The AMS
designation provides managers a hands-on approach to property maintenance, best
practices for developing, managing, and balancing budgets, preparing contractor
proposals, and understanding a community association’s reserve study.
Candidates
who want to earn the AMS designation must have two years of experience in
financial, administration, and facilities management at a community
association, successfully complete at least two of CAI’s M-200 level courses,
and successfully earn the Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA)
credential administrated by the Community Association Managers
International Certification Board (CAMICB).
“For
more than 40 years, CAI has been the trusted source for community association managers—offering
world-class education to support the community association housing model as it continues
to grow and evolve,” says Thomas M. Skiba, CAE, CAI’s chief executive officer. “Today’s community associations operate as businesses,
and they need qualified professionals to help safeguard and empower the
financial well-being, physical maintenance, and harmony of these communities
around the world.”
The
AMS designation is an important part of CAI’s professional credentials program and is often
seen as a stepping stone to the Professional Community Association Manager
(PCAM) designation, the highest professional recognition available to managers.
CAI’s education and credentials help community association managers and
business partners increase their earning potential, accelerate their career,
grow their business, and prove they are the right professional for the job.
