CAI Publications Win Five National Awards

6/22/2001  -  Alexandria, VA

The Community Associations Institute (CAI) recently received five awards honoring CAI's design and publications capabilities in prominent competitions sponsored by both Print Magazine and the Society of National Association Publications (SNAP).

"It's a tremendous honor for CAI to receive both the Print and SNAP awards," said Mary Butler, CAI's Art Director. "We believe in the importance of strong design supporting and complementing strong editorial to attract readers of our magazine, Common Ground, and all of CAI's publications. It is a rewarding validation to have our efforts honored by such prestigious groups."

CAI won three awards in the annual design competition sponsored by Print Magazine, the premier graphic design magazine in the nation. Print receives some 32,000 individual entries each year for this prestigious competition. All three of CAI's winning entries were from the organization's bi-monthly official magazine, "Common Ground," and included the following feature spreads:

  • "Louder Than Words," article by Debra H. Lewin, design by Mary Prestera Butler, Jan/Feb 2001 issue
  • "Heads Up Meetings," article by Jim Slaughter, design by Mary Prestera Butler, Sept/Oct 2000 issue
  • "The Portfolio Files," article by William P. McShane, CMCA, AMS, design by Mary Prestera Butler, May/June 2000 issue

The winning entries will be published in "Print's" Regional Design Annual 2001 commemorative book in late September, and CAI will receive Certificates of Design Excellence for each of the entries.

In addition, on June 13, CAI was presented with two awards at a luncheon honoring winners in the 2001 Excel Awards Competition, sponsored by SNAP. CAI's winners in the annual SNAP contest included:

  • Silver Award in the Special Publications—Special Reports Category, for the Common Ground Special Bonus Issue: "Insurance and Risk Management," published in September 2000
  • Bronze Award in the Special Publications—Membership Directories/Buyers Guides/Catalogues Category, for the 2000 Resource Catalog

The Community Associations Institute is a nonprofit association created in 1973 to provide education and resources to America's 231,000 community associations—condominium associations, homeowner associations and cooperatives. CAI members include homeowners, associations and the professionals who provide products and services to them.
