While real change can be challenging and disruptive, the myriad changes taking place in the community association field offer unparalleled personal and professional opportunities for members of Community Associations Institute (CAI).
It is fitting, therefore, that Embracing Change is the theme of CAI's 53rd National Conference and Exposition, May 20-22 at the Town and Country Resort & Convention Center in San Diego, CA.
The conference agenda targets professional managers, community association volunteer leaders and businesses and professionals who work with community associations.
In addition to special presentations on change management, conference sessions will address many of the evolving challenges faced by community association leaders, including consensus building, community leadership, dispute resolution, construction defects, builder transition, insurance, the legal and financial impacts of mold, maintenance and landscape management.
Shop Talk sessions are scheduled for managers, attorneys, bankers, accountants, reserve professionals, and insurance and risk management specialists.
Conference highlights include:
- Keynote addresses by John Naber, Olympic Gold Medal winner and motivational speaker, and John Nance, a decorated Air Force pilot, internationally known air safety specialist and author.
- CAI's Exhibit Hall, showcasing the latest technologies, products and services available to community associations.
- The National Awards Dinner Dance, featuring one of San Diego's best bands and a fitting tribute to CAI's national award winners from the past year.
- The San Diego chapter's casino night at the Catamaran Resort Hotel on Mission Bay.
"We may be tempted to resist, but change is our reality," said CAI Chief Executive Officer Thomas M. Skiba, explaining the conference theme Embracing Change. "Our industry is growing and evolving. Our members face new and unique challenges in their communities and careers. The marketplace is changing. So are many of the rules. We are being scrutinized like never before – by policy-makers, by the media, by activist HOA organizations and by our homeowners."
Skiba added, "More than any other venue in the industry, this conference can help us manage the changes and challenges we face within our communities, in our companies, at CAI and throughout the industry."
The Town & Country Resort and Convention Center is located on 40 acres landscaped by hundreds of grand arching palms. Amenities include a pool, golf course, spa facilities and five restaurants. Local attractions include Sea World Adventure Park, the world-famous San Diego Zoo, LEGOLAND, and the San Diego Wild Animal Park. In addition to Tijuana, Mexico, just an hour's drive from San Diego, the area also features Cabrillo National Monument, the Gaslamp Quarter and many historic missions.
