CAI's PCAM designation is the most respected and prestigious industry honor for
community association management professionals.
Community Associations Institute (CAI), the leading international authority in community association education, governance, and management, is proud to announce that Kimberly Sutherland, CMCA, AMS, PCAM, is the 3,000th recipient of CAI's prestigious Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM) designation.
“Earning this designation reaffirms my enthusiasm for what I do every day for my client communities," says Sutherland, a manager with Realmanage, AAMC, in Chicago. “This credential will help me stand out among peers and increase my visibility as a manager."
Sutherland, who has 10 years of industry experience in large-scale community association management, attributes a recent promotion to her newly earned PCAM designation. Much like the 2,999 CAI manager members who came before her, Sutherland spent countless hours studying to meet the stringent requirements to qualify for this sought-after credential while continuing to maintain a demanding job.
The PCAM designation, first introduced in 1982, is the highest professional recognition available worldwide to individuals specializing in community association management. According to the 2017 Community Association Manager Compensation and Salary Survey by the Foundation for Community Association Research (FCAR), community managers holding a PCAM designation can earn an average of $30,000 more than colleagues without it. To qualify for the designation, community association managers must have five years of direct community association management experience, complete all six of CAI's 200-level Professional Management Development Program (PMDP) courses, and successfully pass the Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) examination, which is administered by the Community Association Managers International Certification Board (CAMICB).
“For more than 35 years, community association managers earning the PCAM designation have been regarded as the best and brightest throughout the U.S. and around the world in the community association industry," says Thomas M. Skiba, CAE, CAI's chief executive officer. “By earning a PCAM designation, these managers prove they have the knowledge, ethics, professionalism, and skills to successfully lead in today's fast-growing community association housing model."
CAI provides the most comprehensive, world-class education courses for community managers seeking to increase their skills, knowledge, and job opportunities. During fiscal year 2018, CAI members earned 762 new industry credentials and designations—the most since 2012.
“We are dedicated to fueling the passion of community association managers and leading the industry to new heights of expertise in all aspects of association governance and management with prestigious curriculum and resources," says Skiba.
