Playground Safety

SafePlaygroundsSlider.jpg
Community Associations Institute (CAI) recognizes National Playground Safety Week, which takes place April 23-27, 2018, and is focusing on children's outdoor play environments.

It takes a village to ensure that playgrounds are a reliable and safe environment that hosts a respectable balance of good judgment and fun for kids of all ages and abilities. As the National Program for Playground Safety puts it, “playgrounds don't become safer all by themselves."

Here are some materials CAI has created so you can have a “safer playtime" through our award-winning publications and education, along with resources and materials you can take action with this week and beyond.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

According to the National Program for Playground Safety, “Nearly 70 percent of all playground injuries are related to children falling to the ground. Acceptable surfaces include engineered wood fiber, poured-in-place rubber, rubber mats or rubber tiles. Playground surfaces should not be concrete, asphalt, grass, blacktop, packed dirt or rocks." This is just one of 10 safety guidelines available on the NPPS website at www.playgroundsafety.org/safety-tips/checklist.
