The Community Associations Institute is looking for the best condominium, cooperative and homeowner associations in the country. CAI's ninth annual National Community Association of the Year Award, sponsored by Ian H. Graham Inc., Sherman Oaks, Calif., and The Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, Warren, N.J., will honor associations that excel in all aspects of operations and manage-ment. Winners will be recognized at CAI's 45th National Conference in Arlington, Va., Oct. 29-31.
About 42 million Americans live in the nation's 205,000 community associations, which are led by more than a million volunteers. These homeowners dedicate their free time and expertise to the challenging task of preserving and enhancing property values and ensuring that all residents can enjoy the benefits of their community. Volunteer board members plan community events, manage budgets, contract for maintenance and repair services and enforce the association's covenants. A community association operates as a government, a community and a business, making it a truly specialized type of organization.
The National Community Association of the Year Award recognizes:
Organized and productive business operations, Successful governance principles and practices, Sound financial management, Thorough and effective communications systems and techniques, Fair and effective rules notification and enforcement policies and procedures, and Special, creative activities and programs designed to foster a sense of community and enhance residents' enjoyment of their homes.
Associations of any size are eligible to enter. Entrants will compete against similar-sized community associations in four categories: small association (1-149 units), medium association (150-499 units), large association (500-999 units) and very large association (1000+ units). Membership in CAI is not required to enter, but members pay a discounted $35 entry fee. The non-member entry fee is $60.
